Dr Emilie Erasmus is a distinguished and loving paediatrician who received world-class training and experience from some of the top institutions in South Africa. Graduating with an MBChB (Cum Laude) from the University of Pretoria, academic honorary colours and a string of distinctions across various disciplines, she embarked on a mission to make a difference in paediatric healthcare. Her career began as a phlebotomist at AMPATH, Montana Hospital where she honed her skills in patient care and general branch administration. Dr Erasmus then transitioned into medical internships at renowned institutions including Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, earning the Intern of the Year award in 2014. Over the years, she held positions as a Medical Officer at various hospitals including Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, gaining valuable experience in paediatric and intensive care. Driven by a passion for learning and paediatric medicine, Dr Erasmus pursued further education and training, obtaining diplomas in HIV and Child Health, as well as completing the Fellowship of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa. Her dedication to research is evidenced by her MMED thesis on "Clinical Presentations, Genotypic Spectrum, and Outcomes of Children with Primary Hyperoxaluria at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital." Beyond her clinical roles, Dr Erasmus is a lifelong learner, continually enhancing her skills through specialised courses such as Neonatal Resuscitation, ACLS, ATLS and APLS. She is a member of recognised professional organisations including SAPA and PPS, further enriching her network and knowledge base in paediatric healthcare. Now, as part of the ProPaeds Paediatrics practice, Dr Erasmus continues her journey of compassionate care, enriching the lives of children and families in the Lowveld alongside Dr Carine Smit.
