Once a person has been diagnosed with a substance or alcohol use disorder, it is essential that they are also assessed for co- occurring mental health conditions. A high percentage of people that are diagnosed with addiction disorders, also have co-occurring mental illness.

Drug and alcohol addictions exacerbate already existing mental health struggles, and it is highly unlikely that a person will maintain long term sobriety without treating their mental health, comprehensively.
